The excellent Tomba! 2 makes an appearance in the PSone classics section of the store as a follow to the original Tomba! that was released a couple of weeks ago. PS2 Classics have Neo Contra which I don’t remember ever playing. Heh.

Sales galore! Aside from the huge list this week, there’s a separate Rockstar Sale going on which you should check out. Bully for under $3 is a steal, my friends.

For fellow PS Plussers we are entitled to Remember Me (starring Renz Verano) on PS3 and Street Fighter X Tekken on Ps Vita for the exciting price of ‘free’.

Rayman Legends is finally out this week, though you might want to steer out of the way of the PS Vita version of the game as we heard it’s missing some content (until they patch it). Diablo 3 makes its way to consoles as promised, and you can get jiggle with it with Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate *mmphh*, and a new adventure awaits you with the Strawhats in One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2.

Ubisoft’s little masochistic platformer is finally out! Cloudberry Kingdom‘s randomly generated levels are here to make even the most hardcore jump maniac cry like a little girl.

Here’s the launch trailer:

There’s also Deep Silver’s new twin-stick shooter, Narco Terror. It’s a game inspired by such arcade classics such as Commando, MERCS, Ikari Warriors, and Space Invaders, and modern titles such as Assault Heroes, Renegade Ops, Geometry Wars, and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. They’ve also added an online multiplayer co-op mode. Worth checking out.

If you haven’t played the excellent Journey (not starring Arnel Pineda) and The Unfinished Swan then there’s a bundle sale for these critically acclaimed indie titles. Pick them both up for $14.99

And lastly, I’m gonna include the PlayStation Plus update in this post because I hate this week’s update and I’m a lazy nipple. So here’s the image to sum it up:

Max Payne 3 for $7.99 is a freakin’ steal, by the way.

No AAA release this week, which is fine for me as I would like to finish some of my currents before I add new ones into the pot. Cloudberry Kingdom‘s frantic random level gameplay sounds like a good side-game distraction from my backlog grinding.

Skulls of the Shogun gets a PC release this week, coming out of Xbox Live Arcade’s exclusivity thing. It’s a good game that is worth checking out

Not much wow factor in this week’s store update: Zone of the Enders HD is now available digitally, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational gets a PS3 version, and you can do a digital pre-order of Madden 25, brah.

The starring item for this week’s update is the stealthy Persona Sale — hidden among the long list of price changes and discounts:

  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona – PS Vita/PSP Game (now: $9.99 original price: $19.99)
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin – PS Vita/PSP Game (now: $9.99 original price: $19.99)
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable – PS Vita/PSP Game (now: $9.99 original price: $19.99)
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES – PS2 Classic (now: $4.99 original price: $9.99)
  • Persona 4: Golden – PS Vita Game (now: $19.99 original price: $29.99)

If you have a PS Vita, then P4G for $19 is a no-brainer.

Oh, and Critter Crunch (PS3) is $0.99. Get it.

Head over to the PlayStation Blog for complete details on the update.

And the award for the most needlessly lengthy post title goes to…

So here’s a reason to actually jailbreak your PlayStation 3s, apart from being a dirty dirty pirate.  Some smart cookies have figured out the encryption on the PS2 Classics emulator and completely reverse-engineered it. What does that mean in human terms? If you own a hackable PS3—and yes this includes ones that didn’t have backwards-compatibility built into the box—through some convoluted process you can now load an ISO dump of any PlayStation 2 title and play it right off the hard drive. According to this completely unofficial compatibility list it looks like it’ll work with some minor glitches on pretty much any title you throw at it.

I know this is a software emulator and thus prone to weird glitches and whatnot, but really aside from forcing you to re-buy these games you already own is there any legitimate reason Sony just didn’t package this up as a software emulator and let you play your own discs? I literally have three seven-foot stacks of PlayStation 2 discs that are collecting dust in my garage because busting out the PS2 is a pain in the rear. They have no excuse, especially considering Microsoft’s well-intentioned attempt at backwards-compatibility left dozens of titles riddled with bugs (but still inherently playable).

Come on, Sony.

1 975

We love it when Atlus reprints stuff. If you’ll remember, they reprinted Persona 2 in 2008 which literally sold out in five minutes.  The publisher has also reprinted Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga fairly recently, so this new batch of the 2006 PS2 RPG isn’t that big of a surprise. This isn’t the best Megaten spinoff out there, admittedly, but at least you’ll save a buncha bucks compared to what it was worth on auction sites just weeks ago.

Grab a copy hot n’ fresh at Amazon.com, though we suspect that most other online retailers will stock the game fairly soon. After all, who couldn’t resist a game that promotes devil summoning?
