Hey Nintendo folks! We’ve got new(ish) games in this week’s Nintendo eShop update!

Wii U is still stockpiling on classic games via the Virtual Console. This week sees the release of Galaga ($4.99), a classic shoot-’em-up that weaned us back in the 80’s before we moved on to classier shmups and bullet hell games. What was your favorite?

Speaking of shooters, well… Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist is also now on the Wii U with new controller-specific functions exclusively for the Gamepad. Release date is on August 20th and it can be had for $59.99.

Discounted games Trine 2: Director’s Cut is available for $7.99 until September 5th from its original price of $19.99, and BIT.TRIP Presents RUNNER 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien is going for $11.25 (from $14.99) until August 29. Also, BIT.TRIP has a new DLC for $3 which features six new playable characters so you might want to throw that in if you’re planning to buy the game.

As for the 3DS, you can get Heavy Fire: Black Arms 3D ($4.99, originally released for WiiWare) if you’re into shooters (is it shooter week for Nintendo or something), and then there’s the 10-in-1 Arcade Collection which reminds me of those shady cartridges everybody owned back then for the NES. It’s going for only $2.99 so maybe it’s a good deal for retro fans?

Retail releases for Barbie Groom and Glam Pups and My Western Horse 3D (both at $29.99) which I will refuse to talk about, because principles.

Speaking of retro, Donkey Kong is now available for the 3DS Virtual Console collection for the usual price of $4.99.

Nothing to pick up this week, so I guess I’ll go back to Hydeland and try to beat Infernal this week. What about you?

Got the $30 eShop credits from registering your Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem: Awakening codes in Club Nintendo? Here, let me help you spend it!

Wii U

  • Virtual Console library is getting bigger each week. This week marks the release of SNES classic Kid Icarus for your current gen Nintendo console… /cry. Get it for the usual $4.99.

3DS

  • Chain Blaster is available at $6.99, or you can get the demo first to see if it’s something to your liking.
  • Angler’s Club: Ultimate Bass Fishing 3D is available for $29.99.
  • Picross e2 can be had for $5.99.
  • Cute Witch! Runner is on the Nintendo DSi for $1.99.

Zzzz… On second thought, keep the $30 and just add a few more bucks to get Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies or something. Or maybe spend it on Megaman 1-6 like I did.

Greetings, Ninty folks! Looks like it’s going to be a pretty busy month for the Big N, what with Animal Crossing: New Leaf dropping in a few days! For now, let’s see what they cooked for us this week.

Wii U:

  • One of my favorite matching games on the Gameboy, Yoshi enters the Virtual Console fray, wooo!
  • Another retro adventure title, Spelunker, struts its way out of caves to the VC.
  • Trine 2: Director’s Cut is on sale for $9.99, if you passed on this sidescrolling game during its release. The sale will be until June 27th.
  • Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth, now at $29.99, if you have the urge to battle for earth.

3DS:

animal_crossing_new_leaf_logo

  • Everyone’s probably heard of Animal Crossing: New Leaf and has held on to their money to plonk on DataBlitz once it arrives on June 9th, so no more introduction is necessary. If you ran out of copies and have 6,000 blocks in your micro SD card to spare, you can download it via the eShop.

Wii:

  • Sengoku 3 graces the Virtual Console, so I guess you can still keep your Wii plugged or whatever.

I guess you know what I’ll be getting this week. See you in the village!

It’s a Virtual Console week at the Nintendo eShop! I already bought both The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons the minute it went live. I think with this all the handheld Zeldas are now available for the 3DS — and I have them all! Muwahahahahahahah…! *cough*

The Wii U realm of the eShop also has VC goodies with the awesome Mega Man X (seriously, play the embedded trailer and do air-guitar. You’re welcome), the frustratingly hard Ghosts N’ Goblins, and the supaa-supaa kawaii Kirby’s Dream Course. :3

Non-Virtual Console games are also added for the 3DS eShop: The Denpa Men 2: Beyond the Waves and Gummy Bears Mini Golf. You can also grab a demo of Project X Zone on June 4th.

Own a 3DS? Want some cheap, quality games to play with? You’re in luck! Level-5, makers of truly awesome games like Ni no Kuni, Dragon Quest 8, and Jeanne D’Arc, is discounting their Guild01 games on the Nintendo eShop.  Starting today April 18th (in the US) until May 30, you can enjoy the following games in dirt cheap prices:

  • Shoot-em-up game Liberation Maiden can now be bought for $4.99
  • Aero Porter, a sim airport game, is now at $2.99
  • And for all D&D freaks out there, Crimson Shroud is now only at $4.99

There’s a mysterious black box floating around in Level-5’s website which we only hope will herald the Guild02 games release in North America soon.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks to reader Miguel for correcting me on the release date.

The KORG M01D is a music workstation program based on the KORG M1 music workstation (one of the first of its kind) and is set to be released on the 3DS as an eShop download on May 2013 in Japan and Summer (June to September) 2013 for the rest of the world.

This isn’t the first music software made for a Nintendo handheld and also not the first music software with the “KORG” brand as we have seen two (2) iterations of a KORG branded music synthesizer namely the KORG DS 10 and KORG DS 10 Plus.

Here are some of the key features:

  • All sounds from the M1 music workstation will be available.
  • There will be new sounds developed specifically for the M01D
  • It will sport an 8 part multi-timbral synthesizer with 324 sounds (max 24 voices)
  • You can also exchange data via Nintendo local wireless communication and via internet connection

Read more about the specifications and details on the KORG M01D from the Detune website.

The list is pretty short this week and there’s even nothing to look forward to for Wii U, but there’s two fantastic games that you shouldn’t miss!

  • HarmoKnight, the rhythm action game by Pokémon developer Game Freak is out! Jump and attack to the beat to save Melodia from the nasty invaders.  The game is $14.99 and is only available digitally.

If you missed the system update, do so now, system enhancements plus new stuff for the Mii Plaza and your camera.  There’s also Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Mega Man 3 available a few weeks back so get them if you haven’t!

A team review of HarmoKnight will be up soon so look forward to it.

If you are one of them MonHun fanatics who double-dipped and bought both the Wii-U and the 3DS version and was pissed that you are not able to transfer your save between the systems as advertised, then you can stop being pissed.

Capcom has uploaded the MH3U Save Transfer Tool plus the Packet Relay Tool that will enable the 3DS version to piggyback on the Wii-U system to go online (the handheld version only has local multiplayer). These tools can be downloaded for free.

Check these links for Nintendo’s official description and instructions for these tools:

The original Flipnote Studio app on the DSi was a hoot but it had limited features. Good thing Nintendo will be releasing Flipnote Studio 3D this coming summer as announced by Nintendo of Japan’s President Satoru Iwata’s disembodied floating head in a Nintendo Direct Mini presentation released today (see embedded video).

This new version is capable of creating longer animation sequence in color and of course 3D. You can also turn your creations into AVI files for easier sharing. We all know what that means: colored 3D penises, of course!

Here’s the official press release:

—————————————————————–

13th March 2013 – Start to stockpile your creative juices, as Nintendo has released first details on the new features of animation software Flipnote Studio 3D for Nintendo 3DS. To be released this summer as a free download on Nintendo eShop, Flipnote Studio 3D will give you the chance to devise 3D animated masterpieces with the simple aid of your Nintendo 3DS system. Check out the first details by watching the Nintendo Direct Mini – Flipnote Studio 3D video on the Nintendo Direct website.

Flipnote Studio 3D follows up from Flipnote Studio on Nintendo DSi*, furthering the concept of turning your Nintendo handheld console into an animation studio using your stylus to contrive simple or elaborate sketches, called Flipnotes. For those inspired by old-fashioned flip-pads which create the illusion of movement when flicked through, Flipnote Studio 3D is the virtual equivalent, but with the added benefit of 3D layering, and (as with the original Flipnote Studio) the ability to include audio and share your creations with the world.

The key aspect of the application is the ability to create Flipnotes in 3D by arranging three different layers, before adjusting the 3D depth to your desired level. To help illustrate your artistic masterwork and bring it to life, an increased number of colours will also be at your fingertips.

Flipnote Studio 3D will allow you to showcase your creativity to others, with the functionality to convert Flipnotes into AVI files making it easier to share animations online, allowing your friends a virtual exhibition! In addition, the application will boast its own online community services. Flipnote Gallery: Friends will be set up for animators to freely share Flipnotes amongst friends, while the introduction of a paid community service, Flipnote Gallery: World, will enable Flipnote users from across the globe to interact with each other’s works for a small monthly fee. A free trial for the first 30 days of use will be offered for this service, while Flipnote users who create Flipnotes that are highly rated by other users may receive their next month’s subscription for free.

In order for animators to get a taste for designing 3D Flipnotes, a selection of sample 3D videos have been created using Flipnote Studio 3D, and are now available to view via Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS.

Launching this summer, Flipnote Studio 3D will provide you with a full animation studio in the palm of your hand, and in 3D. For the first details on the current development of this application, visit the Nintendo Direct website, or head to Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS for sample 3D videos.

*For Flipnote Studio users on Nintendo DSi, the current Flipnote Hatena services for Nintendo DSi and PC will end on 31st May 2013. Flipnote Studio users on Nintendo DSi will still be able to use the application to create Flipnotes.

——————————————————————

If you want to sample animations created on the Flipnote Studio 3D app right now, Nintendo has uploaded some to the 3DS eShop for your viewing pleasure.

With one week left till release, the hype-train for Capcom’s Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate goes into overdrive!

Here’s a newly released “Battle Trailer” for the game highlighting the features and of course the monsters, new and old, that we will be murdering (or will be murdering us).

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate hits retail and the Nintendo eShop on March 19th for both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
