So some crazy stuff went down the last few weeks circling around California-based publishers Atlus and XSEED. We already heard some rumblings that Atlus Online—who previously published the (disappointing) Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE and Neo Steam: The Shattered Continent—was in the process of being acquired by XSEED JKS, Inc., a localization house that I will be forever indebted to for bringing in the Ys PSP titles to North American shores.
The merger was formally announced today, with a twist: the companies will now be united under the banner of Marvelous USA. Parent company Marvelous AQL (probably better known to most gamers as MMV) has been partnering up with XSEED since 2008; and the partnership has brought such games as Half-Minute Hero overseas. Thankfully, this name change/partnership will not affect anything on XSEED’s publishing schedule. Ys: Memories of Celceta is safe, thank God.
“Marvelous USA unifies our US operations under the global Marvelous brand while giving our customers topnotch products and support for both traditional and online social and mobile games,” states Marvelous USA President/CEO Shinichi Suzuki in a press release issued today. “Our XSEED Games console and PC brand will continue to offer the quality games and service for which it is known, and Marvelous Online gives us expanded reach into mobile and online social gaming markets.”
